@natgeo Photograph by David Coventry @davidcoventry While on a late night tour of The Met this beautiful Goddess caught my eye. Egyptian “Coffin of Udjaersen. The inner faces of Udjaersen’s coffin present two views of the sky goddess Nut, drawn on a background of magical spells. On the inner side of the box, the goddess who’s name is written above her head faces right. The drawing on the inner face of the lid, in front of the deceased’s eyes, shown the nude goddess frontally, the sun between her hands and, at the same time, giving birth to the sun. The drawing is a symbolic rendering of the sun’s journey during the day, while the birth represents the dawn” approx 664-525 BC description courtesy of the Metropolitan Museum of Art NYC , #natgeo #nationalgeopraphic #themet #metropolitanmuseumofart #newyorkcity #archeology #ancientegypt #iphone6 #magic #egyptianmythology #egyptiangoddess by natgeo
