Photograph by @paulnicklen for @natgeo // A diver descends through a net pen full of farmed Atlantic Salmon. Did you know that it takes between 2 and 4 pounds of wild fish (anchovies and or herring) to make a single pound of farmed fish? Did you know that more pesticides and antibiotics are used in Atlantic Salmon than any other livestock industry on Earth? Alaska refuses to allow these farmed fish pens in their waters to protect their wild stocks and ecosystems. People think that they are doing our oceans a favor by eating farmed fish whereas, in reality, this industry is helping drive the collapse of our oceans and our wild salmon stocks. Want to help? Whenever you are in a restaurant or grocery store, ask where your seafood comes from. Many restaurants and grocery stores have already boycotted the sale of farmed salmon. Remember you support healthy oceans every time you order at a restaurant or pay the cashier. Please #follow me on @paulnicklen and @sea_legacy to learn a lot more about our oceans and how we can protect them. #marineprotectedareas #knowwhereyourseafoodcomesfrom @thephotosociety @natgeocreative #oceans by natgeo
